That wonderful dog called the Airedale Terrier, traditionally called the’King of Terriers’, is a middleweight dog that averages forty five to 65 lbs and reaches lengths of 24 inches. They are the biggest of the terrier breeds, but are just as alert and have as much energy as their smaller relations.

Airedale Terriers often have tan heads, ears, chests, undersides, and legs. Their sides and saddles are black. Many Airedale Terriers have a little bit of red mixed together with their white or black chest markings. Thanks to the compactness of their coats, Airedale Terriers will require regular bathing and brushing.
This type of dog is extremely active, and will need exercise and play on a day-to-day basis. Yet it is preferable if the terrier lives with a family with older and well-behaved children. A house with smaller pets, for example pussies or guinea pigs, should doubtless avoid getting an Airedale Terrier, since terriers are prone to chase tiny pets and so on. They can live at home with other dogs, as long as they’re trained from puppyhood. Training itself isn’t a problem. These terriers are playful and keen to learn, as well as constant and protective of their family.

The dog first appeared in England, sometime in the 18th century. It was crossbred from a Waterside Terrier and an Otterhound. They were originally used to hunt little game, and then progressed to big-game hunting and police work. Though the breed has been usually’retired’ from such heavy work, they keep their stamina and persistence, and remain good trackers and hunters.
Households that love to spend time outdoors are ideal for the Airedale Terrier. It can live with other pets, or be fine by itself. With its seemingly limitless energy, it’s only a question of finding a family that will keep abreast of this amazing pet.
